Elizabeth Andrews is the Grand Prize Winner of the 2025 George Wingfield Semmes Memorial Scholarship for $10,000. Elizabeth is a 4th-year Biomedical Engineering major set to graduate in Fall of 2025. Elizabeth believes strongly in using her degree to help engineer a better reality. This passion has led her to serve as a leader towards bettering Georgia Tech. As Treasurer of the Emergency Medical Services at Tech (EMSaT), Elizabeth plays a pivotal role in improving emergency response on campus, overseeing finances, securing grants, and coordinating logistics for a newly established ambulance partnership with Grady EMS. Beyond EMSaT, Elizabeth's leadership extends to her research and entrepreneurial efforts. As her CreateX project, she co-developed the E-Z IV Device, aiming to improve IV accessibility for patients with vasoconstriction. She has also been a research assistant multiple times, working in the genetic engineering of painted lady butterflies, as well as research work in left ventricular assistance devices for patients with heart failure. Her experience as an EMT, extensive research, and work experiences in medical technology have fueled her goal of becoming a "physicianeer"—integrating medical and engineering expertise to drive innovation in healthcare. Elizabeth embodies Georgia Tech’s motto of "Progress and Service" both on campus, and in her future beyond the Institute. The ANAK Society is proud to have Elizabeth as our 2025 George Wingfield Semmes Memorial Scholarship Grand Prize Winner.
Tosin Adedipe is the 1st Runner-Up of the 2025 George Wingfield Semmes Memorial Scholarship for $8,000. Tosin is a 4th-year Biomedical Engineering student, set to graduate in May 2025. In her leadership, she carefully combines being a compassionate hand, and assertive force to create meaningful impact within her communities. As President of the Georgia Tech AfroDance Team, Tosin fosters a culture focused on the individual, ensuring that every member—regardless of experience—feels supported while the group pushes towards excellence together. In this role, she makes sure to practice kindness while making clear the groups standards for each other. Her leadership extends beyond the dance floor though, as she also serves as a Women of Color Initiative Ambassador, advocating for the unique experiences of Black women in STEM. She also shares her love for science through the Georgia Tech Urban Honey Bee Project, where she educates the community about pollinator conservation. Beyond leadership though, Tosin’s dedication to scientific research is equally inspiring. She is an undergraduate researcher in the Botchwey Lab, studying inflammatory cell responses in tissue engineering, and her previous research experiences at Emory and the NSF Center for Cell Manufacturing Technologies at UGA stay consistent with her commitment to biomedical innovation. We are confident Tosin will continue to make an impact in her communities and the world at large as she pursues a career in biomedical engineering research. The ANAK Society is proud to recognize Tosin as the 2025 George Wingfield Semmes Memorial Scholarship 1st Runner-Up.
Mayank Agrawal is one of the 2nd Runner-Up prize winners for the 2025 George Wingfield Semmes Memorial Scholarship for $6,000. Mayank is a 3rd-year Mechanical Engineering student, set to graduate in May 2026. His leadership is defined by resilience, adaptability, and a deep commitment to fostering community. Mayank’s commitment to service is evident in his role as Vice President of Logistics for India Club, where he helped orchestrate large-scale cultural events, creating a welcoming space for students to connect with their heritage. From waking up early every Saturday to make inventory runs, to simply getting breakfast for other members, Mayank went above and beyond to serve his organization and the community around him. Beyond service, Mayank has also been involved in many research and academic pursuits. As an Airframe Development Team Lead for the Better Place Drones VIP project, he led his team and spearheaded the initial development of a hybrid drone platform. He is also involved in research at the Artificial Intelligence in Manufacturing Pilot Facility, helping develop and test components for technologies in and around metal additive manufacturing.
